Indonesia

Image After three days we returned to Tamanyaja and moved forward to Probolingo. The new town was not so interesting but around 30km north was Bromo Semeru National Park. We spent almost one day in this town and I’ve used that time to take few pictures.
Photo: Gas station – yes it is not mistake it was really gas station for motorcycle

Image Because we had time we went to a restaurant…well definition of restaurant in that place was a bar - without alcohol but with many types (or better - colors) of Fanta. Food was not fantastic – simply rice and chicken but we could say that we ate diner in restaurant.
Photo: All colours of Fanta

Image In the afternoon we arrived to the national park…Wow! For the first time I saw an active volcano. What a view.. It was foggy and it was why we saw only the nearest volcano but on next day weather was fantastic.

ImageTo save our PRECIOUS time we decided not to climb on Bromo but head directly to Semeru, the highest Java mountain. We traversed a huge caldera that looked as African savanna.

Image We made regular stops for photo sessions and simply for rests. The nearest hills looked unreal, usually half brown and half green.

Image Finally we left the caldera, from the edge of the volcano we could see the dimensions of the old volcano. It was hard to believe how big it was!.

ImageDuring climbing on Semeru we regulary changed climate zones. We started from grass savanna and we entered tropical mountain forest with gigantic ferns (probably Australian Tree Ferns).

Image For a night we stopped near a volcano lake and we shared flat field with two Indonesians couples (probably students) who sang and played the guitar whole night.

Image Every step we walked we knew that volcano was near us. Every step lifted clouds of volcano dust in air; our noses were filled with ash. I felt like a chimney-sweep.

Image On the next morning we were on the top!! What a view…volcano have erupted every 30 minutes. Everything was covered with ash, pictures look like from a moon.

Image We climbed on Semeru almost three days but way down took us half a day. Next half we spent traveling to Yogyakarta, our last point on the internary.

Image II have to say that traveling by bus (especially during night hours) in Indonesia is an extreme adventure. Driver never slows down below 100km/h, I think he wanted to kill us. I was happy that I left bus in Yogyakarta alive. Because we arrived to Yogyakarta at night on the next day we could organize Prabanan sightseeing.

Image and we went to see Ramayana Ballet..

Image Prabanan is a complex of temples. It was built in IX century, 50 years later than Borobudur (next photo).

Image Except the world famous buildings Yogyakarta offers more attractions. Here you can buy batiks, see Ramayana Ballet or learn Bahasa Indonesia. Obviously you can also taste Indonesian food…

Image Because our time was strictly limited we visited only one Batik Studio, as well as the main food and bird market.

ImageThe last point in our itinerary was Borobudur temple. Usually I try to avoid places where there are thousands of tourist (we were lucky because when we came the temple was deserted) but I have to say that Borobudur is a special place and for sure it is worth to be visited. The best time for such visit is sunrise.

ImageWhen you look into an encyclopedia you might find something like this „It is a Buddhist stupa related to the Mahayana tradition, and the largest Buddhist monument on earth. It was built between 750 and 850 CE by the Javanese rulers of the Sailendra and Sanjaya dynasties.”
Photo: Buddha statues

Image All of the galleries’ walls are adorned with impressive reliefs illustrating the life of Buddha.
It was the last point in our 2 weeks trip; we spent 2 more days in Singapore but sightseeing in Java was over. Definitly it was one of the best holidays I’ve had - many attrations, different cultures and very good companionship.
